Though I have been doing web design and graphic design for the past 10 to 12 years, I continuously find myself wanting to learn more and more about HTML, CSS, PHP, and all of the other web scripting languages available to my disposal. I strive to push myself to the max by challenging myself with projects that are near impossible to complete with research.
There seems to always be something out on the horizon that interests me. Be it learning new Photoshop techniques, web design languages, or simply updated versions of previously known languages such as HTML5 and CSS3. I visit tutorial websites near daily. I just dont feel satisfied with my skill level at any point in time and I bring an honest meaning to the phrase, "Your worst critic is yourself". Although I don't know who it was that initially said that, they are definitely correct. I could be bathed in praise about my work, yet still find something wrong with it.
I do have plenty of goals in store for myself; however, I am currently working on the prerequisites to meeting those goals. At the moment my primary goal is to learn PHP and mySQL to their fullest capacity. I will feel satisfied in this endeavor when I find that I am able to write the code for a complete Facebook style user interface, complete with friends lists, messaging, wall posts, photo galleries, news feeds, and personal profiles for each individual user. Once I am able to code a website of this multitude, I'm sure there will be something new and improved that I will have to learn.
For the most part I am completely self taught with the exception of asking questions to my 100 level class instructors when I find myself having issues. I strive to ask as many questions as I can to the professionals that are teaching me. I do find that I am learning less from the classes themselves than I am from asking them direct questions. This is mostly due in part that I have a fairly large knowledge of subject matter and what I am gaining from the classes is more experience and corrections of my bad habits acquired from teaching myself.
I am looking forward to my future classes and career so that I can continue doing the one thing I love doing, building websites. This whole passion started when I was around 12 years old. I got involved in a website called Neopets that allowed you to have a guild. You could personalize your guild page if you knew HTML and so it began. It continued to evolve from there and I eventually learnt CSS and began with PHP; however, PHP seemed a much harder beast to tackle than HTML. I didn't begin trying to learn PHP until after working with HTML and CSS for more than 5 years, so teaching myself PHP turned out to be much harder than I had anticipated.
So there you have it, folks. The goals, ambitions, and story of myself and how it relates to web design and interactive media. Hopefully, this is insightful enough that you've got a general idea of the type of person I am and the personality I hold.
